CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A judge has sentenced George Huguely to 23 years in prison for beating to death his former girlfriend Yeardley Love.
The sentence, which was reduced from the jury-recommended 26 years, was handed down on Thursday by Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Edward Hogshire. The jury specifically found Huguely guilty of second degree murder and grand larceny.
During the sentencing, Huguely apologized to Love’s mother and sister. His attorneys say they will appeal the case.
