Howard University Police Rally for Increased Security

Published: October 24, 2005

WASHINGTON, Twenty off-duty Howard University campus police officers picketed the campus on Oct. 21, protesting that the school needs more officers to respond to a recent increase in robberies and assaults on campus.

A police union official also stated that campus officials do not take campus police officers seriously.

The officers and the university are currently in collective bargaining talks. A meeting was originally scheduled for Oct. 21 but was cancelled the day before, prompting the protest.
