A man was arrested July 11 after police say he stole a $48,000 hospital bed from a hospital in Florida.

Lance James Sayre, 52, was charged with burglary and grand theft after surveillance footage reportedly showed him walking out of Morton Plant Hospital with the bed in the middle of the day on July 5. Sayre had worked as the Clearwater, Fla., hospital’s equipment repair vendor until his arrest, according to outpatientsurgery.net.

A hospital spokesperson says officials are reviewing security procedures after Sayre walked into a secure area of the hospital to take the bed, which was made by Berchtold. Footage shows Sayre bringing the bed to a hospital loading dock and putting it into the back of his van.

Sayre, who has a criminal record including aggravated battery and felony grand theft, was charged with two felonies and posted $15,000 bond.
