Four security guards and a nurse helped perform the emergency delivery of a baby in the parking lot of a New Hampshire hospital on August 28.
Savita and Ajit Nirbhuvane and their newborn baby are healthy after an unexpectedly short delivery forced some hospital staff members to improvise.
The family pulled up to the front entrance of Portsmouth Regional Hospital and called for help as Savita realized she was already deep into labor and couldn’t get out of the car, according to fosters.com.
As the hospital activated its Rapid Response team, which is used to doing business in the emergency room parking lot rather than the front entrance, a registered nurse and nearby security guards sprang into action.
In the end members of the response team, nurse Georgette Shapiro and hospital security guards Chip Copt, Steve Pelleci, Dawnette Sylvain and Bruce Bitomski ensured it was a successful delivery.
The incident may have been an even bigger surprise for Bitomski, as it was his first day on the job.
