Police believe a 25-year-old woman attempted to kidnap a baby from Samaritan Albany General Hospital on Sept. 19.

According to kptv.com, Trinity Vidal-Hernandez told hospital staff about a friend’s medical emergency and that her friend would soon be arriving at the medical center. As staff were preparing for her friend to arrive, they noticed Vidal-Hernandez had disappeared.

Staff became suspicious and immediately checked the maternity ward, where they found the woman. Authorities then discovered that Vidal-Hernandez’s claims about a sick friend were false.

According to gazettetimes.com, prior to the alleged attempt, Valdez-Hernandez had earlier applied for a job at the hospital and inquired about the maternity ward.
