Officer Saves Choking Woman in Hospital Cafeteria

AURORA, Ill. — A security officer at Provena Mercy Medical Center performed the Heimlich maneuver on a choking woman in the hospital’s cafeteria, saving her life.

Christian Pfister was on break when the woman’s granddaughter ran to his table, seeking assistance, The Beacon-News reports. As Pfister performed the Heimlich maneuver, a “Code Blue” alert was issued to emergency room physicians, telling them to report to the cafeteria.

Pfister, who is certified in first aid, was able to dislodge a piece of food from the woman’s throat.
