WATERBURY, Conn. — Three Waterbury Hospital workers rushed into a burning building on Dec. 27 and rescued the people sleeping inside. The building was located nearby and smoke could be seen from the hospital grounds.
Alan Copeland, a hospital security guard, told Eyewitness News that this was his second fire rescue while on duty at the hospital. In 2008, he rescued residents from the second floor of a house that caught fire directly across the street from the hospital.
Copeland and the other hospital employees, with the help of a Waterbury Police Department, were able to evacuate all the tenants in the building before firefighters arrived.
