Healthcare Security Litigation Experts to Address CS Conference April 27

Organizers of the www.CampusSafetyConference.com are pleased to announce that healthcare security litigation prevention and mitigation experts Bill Nisbitt and Ron Lander will be addressing the conference on Monday, April 27.

“Averting and Minimizing Security Litigation in a Healthcare Setting With Applications for Educational Campuses” will cover the preconditions that allow serious security incidents to occur. Vulnerabilities and the legal concept of foreseeability will be discussed, as will the benefits derived from a thorough security assessment and the need to develop a predicate for all that follows.

Nisbitt, who is president of Security Management Services International (SMSI), Inc. and Lander, who is executive vice president for technology of SMSI, will bring to the workshop their more than 50 years of real-world experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, the legal field and risk management.

Nisbitt is one of the nation’s leading consultants in hospital security and has seen first-hand the effects of inadequate hospital security programs. This industry veteran has evaluated the security needs of numerous hospitals, large and small, and both rural and urban. Those evaluations have resulted in the development of cost-effective security programs. Nesbitt has also developed hospital security training programs for security personnel, helped select security vendors, and developed hospital security awareness programs for all staff.

He has participated as a security expert in more than 560 lawsuits, with about 90 of these suits involving healthcare facilities. Nesbitt has testified in over 490 litigations in matters related to premise liability and a wide range of use of force issues. Those hospital cases include homicides and wrongful death claims, infant kidnappings, child molestation, sexual assaults, and assaults on patients, including improper use of restraints.

Lander is a retired sergeant with 23 years on the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Before joining the LASD, he served as a cadet and photographer for the West Covina Police Department. His experience in law enforcement ranges from burglary, property and high technology crime investigations, to supervision in the Juvenile Investigations Bureau, the Undersheriff’s Office and Data Systems Bureau. Lander’s security experience includes 17 years as vice president of Lander Security Systems and more than 12 years as a security consultant. He is also a board certified protection professional (CPP), certified in security management.

Their presentation, which will take place at the Campus Safety Conference in Tampa, Fla., will be from 2 – 4 p.m. on Monday, April 27.
