Waves of children with the H1N1 flu virus have doubled emergency room volume over the past several weeks. Additionally, a portion of those patients are having a significant impact on intensive care units.
According to USA Today, hospital doctors expect the number of patients needing hospitalization and intensive care to rise, forcing some to cancel elective surgeries.
Additionally, doctors expect another surge of adult patients in about three weeks.
Although swine flu hasn’t been as severe as many previous influenza outbreaks, it is still pushing hospitals to their limits.
