CALIFORNIA, Pa. – California University of Pennsylvania police officers will soon be allowed to carry firearms.
The school’s council of trustees approved the motion March 7, and campus officers will be armed starting in the fall of 2007.
Last year, the general assembly passed a bill mandating the officers in all of the 14 state-run universities carry guns, but the law was amended so that each school’s board of trustees would make the final decision. Cal U. was the last to arm its officers.
The school’s police department will now take steps to develop procedures and training, as well as purchase the necessary equipment.
