Gunman Shoots Self at N.Y. Hospital

WAKEFIELD, N.Y. – An emotionally disturbed man was able to sneak a gun into the psychiatric section of Our Lady of Mercy Hospital and shoot himself in the head. He is currently on life support.

On June 21, Jason Tyler, 25, had flagged down police, telling them he was depressed. He was then transported by ambulance to the hospital’s triage unit and then to the psychiatric section of the emergency room. The hospital’s security officers were just about to frisk Taylor when he shot himself.

Some are saying the guards should have searched Taylor – who didn’t appear to be suicidal or violent – earlier, while he was on the street.

The incident is under investigation.
