Thirteen people were killed at a university in Azerbaijan on April 30 after a gunman opened fire on teachers and students shortly after morning classes had started. Thirteen others were wounded, according to police. The gunman was among those reported dead.
The gunman allegedly moved from the first floor to the sixth floor at the State Oil Academy in Baku while firing at victims, according to Reuters. The assailant allegedly used a Russian-made semi-automatic pistol.
According to reports, the gunman was a Georgian citizen of Azeri origin.
Azerbaijan is a mainly Muslim but secular country of 8.3 million people on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
