Nine eighth graders were injured Sept. 17 when an 18-year-old student threw petrol bombs throughout at a high school in Germany, according to the Associated Press. The teen attacker was armed with an axe, knives and five petrol bombs.
According Reuters, prosecutors said the teen wanted to kill as many students and teachers as possible because he felt “alienated and undervalued” at school. Investigators revealed a diary the attacker kept that outlined his attack – one he had allegedly planned for months. In his diary, the teen referred to the attack as “Apocalypse today,” reported Reuters.
Two girls at the Carolinum secondary school were severely injured in the attack. According to reports, the attacker threw bombs into two classrooms and down a school staircase. He then attacked students as they tried to flee the building.
Police officers shot the teen three times after he threatened them with a knife. He is in critical condition and has not yet been issued an arrest warrant.
