Former N.J. Teacher Admits to Sexually Assaulting Student

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A former teacher in the Toms River Regional Schools district faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting one of her students.

The 32-year-old former Spanish teacher at Toms River Intermediate South, Erin Haskell, engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student between June 2012 and September 2012, Asbury Park Press reports. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped the more serious charge of aggravated sexual assault and other offenses related to the crime.

Before Haskell’s sentencing, she must undergo a psychological evaluation to determine whether she is likely to be a repeat sexual offender. Following her November arrest, the school district placed Haskell on suspension without pay. She resigned from the position in January.
