ST. LOUIS – A former Webster University facilities manager admitted Mar. 12 to stealing more than $400,000 from the university using fake invoices.
Malcolm Murphy, 48, said he sent invoices to the university from companies he created, NuRoad Systems and Paric Civil Consulting Services, between August 2003 and August 2006. During that span, he approved the payment of invoices and even faked other employee signatures. The fraud was traced back to Murphy after school officials noticed accounting irregularities.
Murphy has been charged with mail fraud, admitting he cost the university between $400,000 and $1 million as part of a plea agreement. Court documents reveal the figure was closer to $700,000. His release bond was revoked on suspicion he lied to the court about his assets and employment status.
