An 18-year-old high school football player saved the lives of 23 people after he tackled a 14-year-old female student who was carrying a gun on his school bus, reports CNN.

When the incident occurred on Sept. 1, the bus was carrying 22 students – ranging in ages from five to 18 – to Linwood Elementary, Yazoo County Junior High and Yazoo County High Schools. The 14-year-old suspect began pacing the aisle of the bus, shouting and pointing a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun, threatening to shoot those she accused of teasing her.

Kaleb Eulls was asleep with headphones in his ears when the incident first began. One of his sisters woke him up and informed him that the suspect had a gun.

According to the news report, the bus driver calmly asked the girl to come to the front of the bus and tried to talk her down; however, she returned to the middle of the bus and began shouting again.

At that point, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound Eulls stood up and tried to get the suspect to focus directly on him. Eulls told CNN that he tried to get her to point the gun directly at him, so that she would not point the gun towards anyone else.

When the subject flinched, the defensive end and quarterback, who made a verbal agreement to play football at Mississippi State University, tackled the girl to the floor and took the weapon from her.

Eulls immediately informed the bus driver that he had the weapon, and then Eulls ran to the back of the bus and disarmed it.

The suspect was taken into custody as a juvenile. She faces 22 counts of attempted aggravated assault, 22 counts of kidnapping and one count of possession of a firearm on school property, as the bus is leased by the school district.

No one was injured during the incident, and all the students, including Eulls, continued on to school.
