A student at Florida Memorial University was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the leg Tuesday.
Few details have been released about the shooting, which occurred just after 11 a.m., but the victim’s injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.
By the time first responders arrived, the victim’s friends had driven him to the front gate of campus for treatment.
The university was placed on lockdown shortly after the shooting and people were asked to stay in their dorms, offices and buildings on campus for the next two hours.

The school also initially issued an emergency email falsely informing students that the shooting occurred off campus, reports CBS Miami.
“At that time, that was the information that I had,” FMU Director of Communications Ceeon Smith says of the email.
The victim is in a local hospital, where he is expected to fully recover.
Nearby Jan Mann Opportunity School was also briefly locked down after the shooting.
