A woman accused of stealing a baby from a Sanford hospital has pleaded guilty to kidnapping charges on February 9.  She now faces a possible sentence of two life prison terms plus 15 years.

Jennifer Latham allegedly entered the maternity ward at Central Florida Regional Hospital by following a maintenance man on March 28, 2008. She attempted – and failed – to kidnap a 1-day old girl. Moments later, she allegedly walked into another mother’s room and snatched her 1-day-old son.

Latham was later arrested and the newborn was safely returned to his mother. The hospital has since made security improvements.
