Florida Hospital Reviews Policies After 2 Patient Suicides

TAMPA, Fla. – After two psychiatric patients committed suicide, officials at Tampa General Hospital are reviewing safety policies and procedures.

According to police reports, a 44-year-old woman, who had been admitted into the psychiatric unit several times, hanged herself July 21 on a closet door using a bed sheet. The incident occurred in between 15-minute security checks.

Two days later, a 28-year-old man hanged himself in the same manner. He had been a patient of the ward since June 21.

The deaths were not related, and officials have conducted a formal review of the deaths.
