The Beta Theta Pi fraternity chapter at the University of Central Florida was suspended for two years after some of its members allegedly engaged in alcohol-related and sexual misconduct activities, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The March 24 decision to suspend the fraternity, which was effective immediately, ratified a recommendation made by a special panel of students, faculty and staff, which held two-day closed-door hearings. The panel examined possible violations of student conduct rules when 70 fraternity members visited Oxford, Ohio, in November 2008

The suspension prevents the fraternity from gathering on campus or participating in university-sponsored events as an organization.Posted on the Beta Theta Pi’s page on the university’s Web site was an unsigned open letter stating the organization will file appeals at the university level, and, if necessary, in court.
