DES MOINES, Iowa – Officials at the University of Iowa expect the cost of damages from the recent floods caused by the Iowa River to be $231 million, according to the Associated Press.
Originally officials believed the damage would cost $75 million, with that figure subject to increase. However, as each day passes, university officials find more damage on the campus.
The additional costs include $136.2 million to buildings, parking structures and tunnels; $55.5 million for contents inside the buildings; and the removal of debris.
