The school board for a large district in Florida voted to add school resource officers to its campuses July 25.
Seminole County Public Schools will hire 21 additional deputies by the time classes start on Aug. 21, reports wesh.com.
The additions will ensure an officer is stationed at each of the district’s schools in an effort to improve campus security and emergency preparedness.

The district already had at least one officer at each of its nine high schools and 12 middle schools, but the new officers will fix the problem of individual officers covering more than one of the district’s 37 elementary schools.
The officers are expected to cost $2 million per year. The district will split the cost evenly with local law enforcement agencies.
Beyond improving school security, district officials say they hope the officers will improve student relationships with police at an early age.
