Fires At 2 Campuses Cause Extensive Damage

Two fires — one at Northern Illinois University’s Hoffman Estates satellite campus and another at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse — have caused extensive damage.

The fire at UW-L began in the basement of a residence hall Jan. 31, the La Crosse Tribune reports. Repairs are expected to take 2 to 4 weeks, and approximately 270 students are without permanent housing. Temporary accommodations have been set up in the basement of a campus hall.

A fire at Northern Illinois University’s Hoffman Estates satellite campus Jan. 30 caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, the Daily Herald reports. Classes in the two story building were canceled until Feb. 1.
