The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will help rebuild the University of Iowa theater and art buildings damaged by floods. FEMA is expected to pay for 90 percent of the project. More than $232 million in flood damage occurred to 20 campus buildings.
FEMA’s decision gives the university the option of building new structures outside the flood plain instead of renovating facilities hit last June when the Iowa River reached record levels. The university will approach the Iowa Board of Regents in March about replacing or restoring buildings on the arts campus, according to the Des Moines Register.
