The Campus Safety Conference announces Roy Cales, managing director of the technology sector at NSI as the second keynote speaker for its event taking place at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront, St. Petersburg, Fla., April 26-28, 2009. He will present “How the Federal Stimulus Package Will Impact Education and Healthcare” on Tuesday, April 28th from 9 – 10 a.m.
In 1999, Cales was appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush as Florida’s first state CIO. In this capacity, he was responsible for all technology initiatives in the state’s executive agencies with an annual budget of more than $2 billion. Additionally, he developed and implemented the State Technology Office, a statewide regulatory agency aimed at bringing a consistent, global approach to the state’s technology projects.
In his role as CIO, Cales led the outsourcing of the state’s law enforcement radio system, which was the largest public-private partnership within state government and also led efforts to rewrite the state procurement laws for Florida.
Cales is the managing director of the technology sector for NSI (www.nationalstrategies.com), a business-to-government consulting firm headquartered in Washington, D.C.
