FBI: U.S. Violent Crime Drops 6%

WASHINGTON — Violent crime in the United States has decreased six percent, according to FBI statistics released Monday.

Violent incidents have been dropping annually since 2006. In 2010, there were 1.25 million violent crimes, a six percent decrease from 2009. Since 2001, violent crime has dropped 13.4 percent.

Incidents of murder dropped 4.2 percent, from 15,399 in 2009 to 14,748 in 2010. A murder occurs every 35 minutes, according to the FBI.
