VENTURA, Calif. – The family of a 15-year-old student at E.O. Green Junior High School who was shot and killed in February is blaming the school district for their son’s death, according to MSNBC.
Lawrence King was dressed in make-up and feminine clothes on the day he was murdered. King’s parents said faculty members were aware of King’s sexual orientation, and knew the boy was subject to be bullied and abused. They maintain that if the district had enforced the dress code, their son would still be alive. Thus, the family filed a personal injury claim against the Hueneme school district seeking unspecified damages.
Additionally, Brandon McInerney, the suspect in the case, pleaded not guilty to the shooting. He is being tried as an adult and also faces a hate crime charge.
