CALGARY, Alberta, Canada – Just after 6 p.m. on Nov. 24, a security guard and a faculty member at the University of Calgary restrained a suspected assailant until police arrived at the scene.
After hearing a woman screaming for help near the library, the faculty member notified a nearby security guard, according to Lanny Fritz, campus security director.
After the woman pointed out her attacker, the two pursued the suspect and tackled him, while they waited for authorities to show up.
Neither the victim nor the attacker attends the university. According to Fritz, the woman was walking to an event on the campus. She was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Fritz added that the security officer had only been patrolling the campus since the summer.
