Facebook Sorority Video Voyeur Arrested

Published: December 13, 2010

KEY WEST, Fla. — A man was arrested on Dec. 10 for harassing sorority pledges over Facebook. Mitchell W. Hill, 27, allegedly posed as a sorority alumna and made contact with pledges. Hill asked his victims suggestive questions and, in some cases, convinced them to undress in front of a webcam.

Hill was apprehended after Ashley Atchison, a freshman at Florida State University (FSU), appeared on the Today Show on Dec. 2 to discuss the harassment she had experienced online. Atchison ended her Facebook friendship with Hill – who was going by the name “Lexie” – after he asked her to perform inappropriate acts on camera, Today reports.

After the broadcast, investigators at FSU, Louisiana State University, Auburn University and the Florida police department contacted Facebook. They were able to trace the harassment back to Hill’s IP address.

Hill is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 17 on charges of two counts of extortion, two counts of video voyeurism and 12 counts of attempted video voyeurism.
