MADISON, Wisc.—Large university campuses that have more than 40,000 students can pay more than a half million dollars per year for students visiting hospital emergency departments for alcohol-induced blackouts, reports a study from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The study estimates the costs range from $469,000 to $546,000 per year. Injuries range from broken bones to head and brain injuries.
The study also found that 50% of college students who drink report they experienced alcohol-induced blackouts.
