Entire School Staff Removed During Sex Abuse Investigation

LOS ANGELES — More than 120 staff members at Miramonte Elementary School are being removed at least until August while authorities investigate child sexual abuse allegations against two of the school’s teachers.

Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy said that every employee will be interviewed as part of the investigation, the Associated Press reports. An entirely new staff has been selected to come into the school, and a psychiatric social worker will be placed in every classroom.

The decision follows the arrests of Mark Berndt and Martin Springer. Berndt has been accused of blindfolding children and feeding them semen; Springer was arrested Feb. 3 for allegedly fondling two girls in his classroom. Springer was charged with committing lewd acts upon a girl in 2009, reports the Associated Press.
