NEWPORT NEWS, Va. and WILMINGTON, N.C. — School officials at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) and Christopher Newport University (CNU) respectively are investigating the causes of several fires on each campus.
UNCW officials are reviewing video footage of two suspicious fires that took place on the campus last week. The first blaze started around 11 p.m. on April 10 near Seahawk Landing and caused minor damage to a nearby vehicle. The second fire, which caused no damage, included a partly burned and extinguished cloth that was in the travel lane of the parking deck, WECT.com reports.
Meanwhile, CNU administrators canceled classes Tuesday after firefighters responded to five bathroom fires within five hours at the campus. The fires took place in the David Student Union, Freeman Center, Forbes Hall and McMurran Hall, Hampton Roads reports.
No injuries were reported and the damage was minimal, according to school officials. Classes resumed at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
