New Painkiller Concerns Drug Addiction Experts

NEW YORK — Drug companies are working to develop a more powerful version of hydrocodone, the nation’s second-most-abused medicine.

Addiction experts are worried that this could cause a new wave of abuse, the Associated Press reports. The new pills have up to ten times the amount of hydrocodone than existing medications like Vicodin.

If the new drugs are approved, it would be the first time patients could legally buy pure hydrocodone.
