District Saves $223K in Private Security Firm Switch

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Rockford School District officials saved double the amount of money they expected to during the 2010-11 school year by switching private security firms.

The district previously used Security Professionals of Illinois Inc., the Rockford Register Star reports. After switching to Diamond Detective Agency Inc., the district saved $223,000 — more than twice the savings estimated by district administrators.

Director of Security Fred Diehl said fewer officers may be needed, as six schools have been shut down and programs have been consolidated for the coming school year. This means that when the pay for security officers is increased from $12.98 per hour to $13.24 for the second year of the contract with Diamond Detective, the district will probably still pay the same amount, Diehl said.
