Dearborn Student Found in Park with AK47

DEARBORN, Mich. – On September 8, Houssein Zorkot, 26, went to an east Dearborn park after buying a gun at approximately 1:00 p.m. His face was painted black. Authorities say that he tried to flee after police approached him. Zorkot is currently jailed and on a $1-million bond.

Authorities are unsure of what Zorkot had planned when he entered Hemlock Park with a firearm. The FBI and police are investigating the Dearborn medical student. He appears to be sympathetic to the terrorist group Hizbollah, but no direct links have been found between him and any terrorist organizations.

Zorkot is scheduled to appear in the 19th District Court on September 21.

On the day of his arrest, Zorkot allegedly posted photos of soldiers on a Web site believed to be created and run by him, say authorities. The site includes the text: “The Start of My Personal Jihad (in the US)”, and praises Hizbollah and its leader, Hassan Nasrallah. Authorities are uncertain whether his behavior in the park is connected to the Web site, which also has photos from trips to Lebanon.

Zorkot’s parents are Lebanese immigrants. They have said he is confused and is having difficulties fitting in.
