DEA Provides Resources For Parents on Teen Prescription Drug Abuse

Published: July 22, 2011

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has developed two resources for parents concerning the increasing number of teens who are using prescription and over-the-counter medications to get high.

In addition to its Web site on the subject, the DEA has published “Prescription for Disaster: How Teens Abuse Medicine,” a full-color guide to help parents understand and identify the current medications teens are abusing.

The guide also provides prescription drug basics, includes information about commonly abused drugs, the internet, drugs and teens, the DEA’s role and additional resources, such as internet web sites to find the truth about drugs. The publication lists steps parents can take to keep their teens drug free, and more.
