DA Won’t Charge Bernie Fine With Child Sexual Abuse

Published: December 6, 2011

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—  A central New York district attorney says he won’t be able to bring sexual misconduct charges against former Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine because the statute of limitations has passed.

The DA apologized to Fine’s accuser, Bobby Davis, saying the allegations of sexual abuse were credible, reports CNN. Davis was a ball boy for the basketball team who says he told Syracuse police in 2002 about the abuse.

The alleged victim, who is now 39 years old, says Fine abused him starting in 1983, reports USA Today. The inappropriate conduct started when Davis was in seventh grade, and the victim says he was abused at Fine’s home, at Syracuse facilities and on road trips.

The accuser’s step brother is also alleging he was sexually abused by Fine.
