Published: October 24, 2007

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A man fleeing a traffic stop on the California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) campus was fatally shot by police Oct. 23.

The suspect, who led police on a chase to a dirt road in remote forestland, was shot at approximately 7 p.m. Medical aid was not immediately provided to the suspect because the location of the shooting took place in the San Bernardino National Forest.

According to authorities, the suspect tried to ram officers with his car. CSUSB police officers said they had tried to stop the man for a traffic violation in a parking lot near the residence halls. They also suspected he was trying to start a fire. The man quickly drove off, causing the campus police to call for reinforcements from San Bernardino officers.

A detailed account of the incident has not been released, nor the number of times the man was shot.
