In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, many colleges and universities throughout the nation are increasing security for upcoming commencement ceremonies.
Northeastern University, Simmons College and Brandeis University plan to increase police presence at graduation events. Simmons College will also request that attendees not bring large bags or leave anything unattended, Boston.com reports.
Berklee College of Music also plans to add more security personnel during its commencement ceremonies, while Tufts University officials are planning to give extra attention to emergency preparedness.
Officials at the University of Georgia have banned backpacks, as well as bags larger than a cubic foot from the event. Only credentialed media will be allowed to bring in photo and gear bags, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.
Meanwhile, school officials at Boston University, Harvard University declined to disclose what security measures they would take, but noted that “appropriate” procedures would be taken, according to Boston.com.
