College Football Coach Murdered in Domestic Dispute

JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri Southern State University cancelled its homecoming game, following the murder on Friday of the college’s assistant football coach.

Jeffrey Bruner, 39, approached his estranged wife, Dawn Bruner who is also a Missouri Southern State campus police officer, and the coach, Derek Moore, 37, as they were exiting a movie theater together on Friday evening. After exchanging words with the couple, Jeffrey Bruner shot Moore in the torso at close range, The Register-Herald reports.

When Moore fell to the ground, the suspect fired additional shots. The victim died at a local hospital.

Bruner and his wife, had separated recently, and there had been no prior domestic disturbances reported to police. The suspect was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
