Cleveland Schools Provided $2.5 M for Security Upgrades

CLEVELAND – The governor of Ohio announced Oct. 19 that Cleveland schools would be provided $2.5 million for security upgrades. This comes after a student shot two teachers and two students at SuccessTech Academy.

Keith Dailey, spokesman for Gov. Ted Strickland stated that the district will determine what security measures the money will be used for. The main priority for all schools, however, will be the installation of metal detectors.

The state money will come from a joint state-city fund with the goal to build new schools and restore older ones.

Since reopening on Oct. 16, students at SuccessTech Academy must go through a newly installed metal detector and have their backpacks scanned.
