PORTLAND, Ore., Classes were cancelled or disrupted at two Portland-area high schools on Dec. 2 due to perceived threats.
Portland High was closed down after the mother of a student said she obtained information about a possible shooting at the school. In a separate bomb threat incident, students at Deering High were evacuated.
Police say a female student is responsible for leaving a note threatening a bomb explosion at Deering High. A bomb-sniffing dog searched the school and determined the threat was a hoax.
The Portland High threat, they say, was not credible. It was discovered by a student who found a blog maintained by a female Portland High student who wrote about the possibility of someone coming to school the next day with a gun. Officials say the original story became distorted after being passed along to several people.
