Chicago Deploys More Police to Patrol Schools

In response to the September beating death of a Fenger High School student, Chicago’s mayor announced the city would be adopting several tactics designed to improve student safety.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Mayor Richard Daley said that 44 officers will work overtime when school is dismissed. Additionally, 148 officers and 78 police vehicles are being assigned to bus routes and stops. Daley also announced a jobs program for students.
