MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — A Central Michigan University (CMU) professor, whose research focuses on Internet censorship and the use of children in advertising, faces child pornography charges after a campus IT employee discovered three inappropriate videos on the instructors university computer.
School officials suspended 58-year-old William Merrill with pay and barred him from the campus on Monday, the Associated Press reports. Merrill, a tenured faculty member in the College of Education and Human Resources, was charged with distributing child pornography, possessing child pornography and using a computer to commit a crime on Wednesday.
University officials said Merrill has no connection with CMU’s child development and learning laboratory.
