Published: April 17, 2007

PHILADELPHIA – A carjacker was shot and killed attempting to take a gun from a University of Pennsylvania police officer April 16.

The deadly outcome came after the suspect led police on a short chase in a van he had just carjacked. The suspect held the driver at gunpoint and took his vehicle shortly before running down a pedestrian. He quickly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into four parked cars. He then attempted to elude police by foot. Once police caught up with the man, he attempted to take an officer’s weapon, resulting in the fatal shots.

The pedestrian run down by the carjacker was last reported in stable condition, according to an Associated Press report.

The incident will be investigated by the city’s homicide unit.
