WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada – Classes at a northern Manitoba, Canada reserve school have been cancelled indefinitely due to vandals causing $100,000 of damage.
Tables, chairs, computers, photocopiers and even the video surveillance system were smashed June 3 at the Chief Sam Cooke Mahmuwee Education Centre of the Tataskweyak Cree Nation. The vandals were not, however, able to destroy the camera system’s hard drives, which captured footage of the attack.
Authorities are reviewing the images and expect to file charges soon.
School officials do not know when the campus will reopen. Approximately 600 K-12 students attend classes there.
