The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is being charged by the Ministry of Labour for not making the workplace safer for nurses. CAMH was ordered to implement violence prevention procedures after a string of attacks on nurses occurred last year.
The center has also been charged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for faulty hospital doors.
According to the Ontario Nurses Association, there have been 23 incidents of violence at CAMH in which staff were verbally abused, punched, spat on or sexually abused since mid-September.
