South Carolina State University’s director of Campus Services was arrested on a charge of assault with intent to kill July 7, according to TheTandD.com.
Police said that Myron Samuels, 48, participated in a verbal fight with two women on April 14. Allegedly, Samuels pointed a gun at one of the women and pulled the trigger; however, the handgun did not fire. He then struck the woman with his hand, causing her to fall to the ground, and then pointed the gun at the second woman. Samuels left the scene after the incident.
According to officials, the gun was loaded; however, Samuels was unaware that the safety device was in place on the gun.
The 2007 S.C. State Employee of the Year award recipient posted bond set at $25,000 personal recognizance.
Additionally, Samuels has been suspended without pay. Per the university’s policy, Samuels will remain on suspension until the matter is resolved.
