BREA, Calif. – A seventh grade teacher was arrested Nov. 30 on suspicion of threatening to kill one of his students.
The Brea Junior High School teacher, Brian Wilcher, 38, was arrested after an altercation occurred in his classroom.
According to Brea Police Department’s Lt. Jack Conkin, Wilcher threatened a 12-year-old student in his class saying that if the boy was in his class in the next semester, Wilcher would kill him.
What led to the argument is unclear, said Conkin. However, the student allegedly had behavioral problems.
The student, whose name has not been disclosed, relayed the incident to a counselor after class. The counselor then notified school administrators.
Wilcher was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, which is a felony. Wilcher could go to prison if he is convicted.
Wilcher was released on a $50,000 bond.
It is unclear whether Wilcher has been placed on administrative leave; however, an emergency protective order was issued that prevents Wilcher from being with the student in the classroom. The order states that Wilcher must stay away from the student for at least five days.
