SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger informed education leaders Oct. 28 that schools throughout the state will face immediate budget cuts ranging from $2 billion to $4 billion, according to the Los Angeles Times . The cuts are a result of the current financial crisis affecting the state of California.
Many school officials were shocked to hear the news, citing that it would be catastrophic for all the districts to slice their budgets so much.
Districts statewide issued thousands of pink slips earlier in the year in preparation of the multibillion dollar budget cuts.
GOP legislative leaders have recommended that money be taken out of other parts of the budget, rather than schools.
